Barbara Comstock Program for Women in Leadership

Apply Now

Thank you for your interest in the Schar School of Policy and Government’s Barbara Comstock Program for Women in Leadership at George Mason University. We are currently not accepting new applications until Spring 2023. If you would like to be notified when applications open again please email bcleader@gmu.edu.

The program provides young women currently enrolled in middle school and high school with the opportunity to meet and interact with women who hold leadership roles in government, business, medicine, media relations, and other professions.

Through this unique program, participants will hear from special guests as they share insight, advice, and stories of personal achievement. They will also engage with their peers and our special guests in candid, roundtable discussions. Participants will also learn to identify their strengths, practice effective communication with others, and develop their leadership abilities. The hope is to inspire these young women to set ambitious, educational, and career goals.  This summer program will include periodic events held throughout the Northern Virginia area and at the U.S. Capitol.

Eligibility
The Barbara Comstock Program for Women in Leadership will review and consider applications from young women currently enrolled in middle school or high school (public, private, or home school). This is a free program.

Time Commitment
We ask that participants attend a majority of the programs offered to benefit fully from this program.  This program begins in mid-July and will continue through the end of August, meeting about every two weeks throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. No student will be penalized for missing program sessions. We understand that with parents’ busy schedules, summer vacations, and other extracurricular activities, students may not be able to make every session.
