Thank you for your interest in the Schar School of Policy and Government’s Barbara Comstock Program for Women in Leadership at George Mason University. This is the application form for the “Young Women’s Leadership Program” which will be held this summer 2019. APPLICATIONS DUE BY JUNE 18. Information about the Kickoff June event provided as applications are received and accepted.
The program provides young women currently enrolled in middle school and high school with the opportunity to meet and interact with women who hold leadership roles in government, business, medicine, media relations, and other professions.
Through this unique program, participants will hear from special guests as they share insight, advice, and stories of personal achievement. They will also engage with their peers and our special guests in candid, roundtable discussions. Participants will also learn to identify their strengths, practice effective communication with others, and develop their leadership abilities. The hope is to inspire these young women to set ambitious, educational, and career goals. This summer program will include periodic events held throughout the Northern Virginia area and at the U.S. Capitol.
The Barbara Comstock Program for Women in Leadership will review and consider applications from young women currently enrolled in middle school or high school (public, private, or home school).
We ask that participants attend a majority of the programs offered to benefit fully from this program. This program will begin in June 2019 and will continue through the end of August 2019, meeting about every two weeks throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. The kick-off will be at the U.S. Capitol in June. Last year we hosted the students at the Kennedy Center, as well as the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency located in Springfield, Virginia. No student will be penalized for missing program sessions. We understand that with parents’ busy schedules, summer vacations, and other extracurricular activities, students may not be able to make every session.
